Thopeutica glorioparadoxa
A Sulawesi tiger beetle whose extravagant metallic pattern belongs to an island genus packed with species that occur nowhere else.
About this species
Thopeutica glorioparadoxa(W. Horn, 1913)
Thopeutica glorioparadoxa is an endemic Sulawesi tiger beetle. It combines a narrow predatory head and thorax with broad, vividly patterned elytra, and belongs to one of the island’s most spectacular radiations.

Humid forest paths, banks and open surfaces within forest.
Diurnal ground and low-vegetation predator.
Small arthropods.
Solitary.
The species is restricted to Sulawesi, an island whose isolation generated an exceptional swarm of Thopeutica species separated by mountain systems and habitat pockets.
Its body appears assembled from two visual systems: a narrow dark pursuit engine at the front and broad luminous elytra behind, disrupting the outline while the beetle is moving.
The name glorioparadoxa captures a real contradiction — an animal spectacular enough to advertise itself yet patterned strongly enough to fragment against wet, high-contrast forest ground.
