Sagridola maculosa
A Madagascan longhorn with a male reproductive apparatus longer than the abdomen that contains it.
About this species
Sagridola maculosa(Guérin-Méneville, 1844)
Sagridola maculosa is one of only four known species in an endemic Madagascan longhorn genus. Its external spotted pattern is striking, but its most extraordinary structure is hidden internally.

Madagascar
Forest and woodland containing dead wood.
Adults occur on trunks, branches and flowers.
Larvae develop in dead or dying wood.
Solitary.
The male penis-and-tegmen complex is longer than the abdomen; at rest its base projects forward into the metathoracic cavity, forcing a reproductive structure to share space with the flight apparatus.
That arrangement is so unusual that Sagridola maculosa is used as the illustrated dorcasomine example in a major zoological handbook on longhorn-beetle anatomy.
Sagridola contains only four described species, all Madagascan, making maculosa part of a complete evolutionary experiment confined to one island.
