Neocollyris celebensis
A Sulawesi tiger beetle stretched into a twig-thin hunting shape for moving through vegetation.
About this species
Neocollyris celebensis(Chaudoir, 1861)
Neocollyris celebensis is an arboreal tiger beetle from Sulawesi. Instead of the broad ground-running form familiar from many tiger beetles, it has a long cylindrical body and an extended neck-like thorax that allow it to move around stems and leaves while keeping the eyes and jaws at the leading tip.

Tropical forest foliage, stems and low trunks.
Diurnal semi-arboreal predator.
Small insects on vegetation.
Solitary.
The thorax is drawn out into a long neck-like tube, separating the head from the abdomen far more than in ordinary ground-running tiger beetles.
Its narrow cylindrical body can pass around stems and through foliage with much less obstruction than a broad flattened body.
The enlarged eyes and forward-pointing jaws remain concentrated at the front, turning the entire insect into a slender visual hunting probe in vegetation.
