Open ground.
Diurnal ground-running predator.
Predatory on small arthropods.
The beetle is effectively flightless, so escape, courtship and prey capture all depend on acceleration and manoeuvrability at ground level.
Long legs and a narrow waist keep the body elevated and allow tight turns without the abdomen striking stones or vegetation.
The pale elytral pattern breaks into separate curves and spots, helping an otherwise dark moving body disappear against sunlit mineral ground when it stops.
