About this species
Cephalota (Taenidia) circumdata imperialis(Klug, 1834)

Saline lake margins, salt pans and coastal or inland salt-marsh habitats.
Adults are diurnal and active on open saline ground.
Adults and larvae are predatory on small arthropods.
Solitary.
Field surveys found adults concentrated inside saline basins where very few insects can tolerate the heat, glare and salt exposure.
When the substrate overheats, beetles use tiny shade islands beneath stones, debris or vegetation — refuges only centimetres from the hunting surface.
The larva lives in a vertical burrow in saline soil, anchoring itself with abdominal hooks while the head forms a living trapdoor for passing prey.
