The Ant Portrait Collection
One face. One species. One individual work of art. A growing portrait collection revealing the unexpected colour, architecture and character of ants.
109 portraits. One monumental poster.
The colour, architecture and character of the collection brought together as one large-format work: 109 individual ant portraits in a single panoramic composition.
Natural history transformed into portraiture.
Viewed at this scale, mandibles become architecture, hairs become linework and the surface of the head becomes sculpture. Each species retains its scientific identity, but every photograph is designed to stand independently on the wall.
Choose your portrait
Search by scientific name, authorship or caste. Select a portrait to inspect it at scale. The gallery expands automatically whenever new images are added to the collection folder.
Create a portrait wall.
The vertical format works as a single focal point, a contrasting pair or a group of three. Build the arrangement around colour, caste, mandible structure or simply the faces that command your attention.
